And here is another interesting fact about dental health:
Uncontrolled periodontal disease can negatively impact your overall health by contributing to problems including heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer and other degenerative disease that can be life threatening. While there is no treatment that can fully alleviate periodontal disease, it is important to your overall health to control it. Also critical to be aware that home care is recommended for immediate and long term control of your condition and that the doctor or dental hygienist can NOT control it by themselves.

THIS CONDITION REQUIRES:
Gingivitis Therapy Treats surface infection of the gum that has not affected the bone. Typically requires two appointments and use of medicated rinse.
Active Periodontal Therapy Non-surgical deep treatment of diseased gum and tooth. Typically requires several appointments with numbing as well as additional specialized instruments like a dental laser and/or antibiotics. This treatment is always followed by Supportive Periodontal Therapy in 6 weeks and then every 90 days.
Supportive Periodontal Therapy Periodontal disease is not reversible. So, it requires specialized maintenance every 90 days to continually remove plaque and bacteria from severely affected areas. This type of treatment as well as the appropriate frequency is critical to immediate and long term control of your periodontal disease.
